Ficus lyrata, also known as the lyophilous or oakleaf ficus, has gained popularity as one of the leading plants in the Urban Jungle trend. Although it has been popular in home cultivation for many years, it is currently experiencing a strong renaissance. In nature, it grows in wet tropical forests and, unlike many ficuses, does not develop aerial or supporting roots. It delights above all with large leaves with an interesting shape, resembling a lyre. The leaves grow up to 25 cm in length, are stiff and slightly leathery to the touch, and their edges are slightly wavy. Although in nature it grows up to several meters, in home cultivation its growth can be regulated by trimming the tops of the shoots. The lyophilic ficus usually has an upright habit and one main stem. By trimming the top of the shoot, you can form it as a small stem tree with a crown of beautiful lyre leaves. On young ficus leaves, near the innervation grid, brown spots can be observed, sometimes turning red. It is a species characteristic of this plant and as the leaves develop, the spots turn green. With age, despite pruning, Fikus lyrata grows to a considerable size and is a beautiful decorative element in living rooms, corridors and offices.

In the winter, when the air in the apartment is usually dry, it is worth sprinkling its leaves from time to time, thus increasing the air humidity. A suitable substrate is a universal substrate. In terms of moisture content, the ficus is quite tolerant, it may sometimes dry out before the next watering, but you should never allow the substrate to dry out completely, as it will have a negative effect on the beauty of the tree. The plant should be fertilized with green plant fertilizer once every two weeks from spring to autumn.

The plant is sold in a pot with a diameter of 13 cm. Plant height measured with the pot is approx. 40 – 50 cm.
