Hoya compacta ‘Mauna Loa’ is a unique and rare variety of the equally valuable, green-leaved Hoya carnosa ‘Compacta’. ‘Mauna Loa’ has the same twisted and curled leaves as the classic Hoya ‘Compacta’, except that they are variegated, decorated with creamy white spots and pink in places. The leaves are fleshy, with a shiny and slightly corrugated surface, and the blade is arranged in finely twisted curls that densely cover the long, overhanging shoots. Their attractive variegata color, in addition to the extremely decorative, almost baroque form, enhances the splendor and impressive look of the whole plant. Abundantly leafy shoots resemble decorative, hanging garlands or thick ropes. In addition, the undeniable decoration of hoya ‘Mauna Loa’ are light pink flowers with a diameter of approx. 1.5 cm, gathered in 30 – 50 in spherical umbels, which usually appear in spring or summer among fleshy leaves. Depending on the light conditions, the flowers may bloom irregularly at any time of the year. They give off an interesting, slightly almond aroma and last for 5-7 days depending on the temperature of the cultivation. The growth of the plant is quite slow, but thanks to the three-dimensional leaves and unusual silhouette, even young specimens are a feast for the eye. Hoya ‘Mauna Loa’ is a unique proposition for all hoyomaniacs. At the same time, providing it with the right conditions for cultivation and care, it will make even novice lovers of indoor plants happy.
