Selenicereus grandiflorus is an extraordinary cactus that occurs naturally in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Due to the original flowers, whose extraordinary beauty we can admire only from dusk till dawn, this species is sometimes also called the “Queen of One Night”. The plant impresses with an interesting habit and dazzling flowering. It produces bluish-green, stiff, thin, ribbed, very long shoots, covered with fine yellow thorns. They are about 3 cm in diameter and can be up to 5 m long. Stems can hang freely or climb on various supports with the help of adherent roots. During the longest days of the year (June-July), Selenicereus grandiflorus produces sumptuous flowers with an exotic appearance and a captivating, sweet, vanilla scent. Large, white flowers, about 30 cm in diameter, look phenomenal among fancifully bent shoots. Their outer petals are narrow, long in shades of brown, orange and yellow, while the inner petals are shorter, wider and have a beautiful snow-white color. Once fully bloomed, the flowers last for only one night. Under the right conditions, the plant blooms several times a season. Large-flowered selenicereus is a collector’s species recommended to lovers of unique exotic plants.
The plant is sold in a pot with a diameter of 12 cm. Plant height measured with the pot is approx. 30-40 cm.
