Phalaenopsis is a genus of about seventy species of plants in the orchid family. Orchids of this genus are monopodial or lithophytes epiphytes with long, thick roots, short, leafy shoots, and long-lasting, flat flowers arranged in a flowering stalk that often branches towards the end. Orchids of this genus are native to India, Taiwan, China, Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Australia, with most of them found in Indonesia and the Philippines
Phalaenopsis is the most famous and commercially available type of orchid, loved for its gracefully curved flower heads that lift up wide, round flowers. Phalaenopsis is an orchid icon. In addition to the popular large-flowered hybrids, the genus includes many exotic species that are naturally found in East Asia and the Pacific islands. Phalaenopsis species and hybrids have long-lasting flowers, but the fragrance is often limited to species from certain subgroups and closely related hybrids. Phalaenopsis is best grown in medium to high temperatures and low to medium light levels.
The plant is sold in a pot with a diameter of 9 cm. Plant height measured with the pot is approx. 40 – 45 cm.
