Piper crocatum is an ornamental pepper with shimmering pink leaves. It requires high air humidity, but it will repay you with long, fast-growing shoots for proper care. In our opinion – the perfect potted plant. Climbing and pink!
Piper crocatum is a pepper that is naturally endemic to Peru, where it grows in the undergrowth of lowland rainforests.
The position must not be too bright, as the delicate pepper leaves can get burnt. A spot with indirect sunlight or semi-shade will do.
The best temperature is 20-28 ° C and air humidity above 60%.
The substrate for pepper should be well drained – it is worth adding perlite, coconut chips and bark to the soil. Allow the substrate to dry between waterings and ensure that the air humidity is at least 60%. In spring and summer, it is worth regularly feeding the plant with fertilizer for plants with decorative leaves. Piper crocatum can be successfully grown as a hanging plant, but it will also be happy with a support in the form of, for example, a coconut stake. Piper crocatum will also find its place in a home greenhouse or display case, where it will have constant high air humidity. In too low air humidity, Piper crocatum leaves may dry out and wilt.
The plant is sold in a pot with a diameter of 12 cm. Plant height measured with the pot is approx. 25 – 35 cm.
