Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’ is a magnificent vine, naturally occurring in South America, where it grows on trees in the humid equatorial forests of Colombia. It owes its name to an agronomist from Puerto Rico. It is characterized by slow growth, but growing it under the support of moist moss will allow us to enjoy the large size of its leaves faster.
Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’ is a collector’s item that is difficult to find on the market and is very sought after due to its spectacular leaves. It is famous primarily for its unique variegation, which can be influenced by creating appropriate conditions for the plant. The key to obtaining beautiful coloring is to provide it with a warm place with plenty of diffused light and high air humidity.
In the case of philodendron ‘Jose Buono’, young leaves are usually oblong and sharp, but over time they become more rounded. In turn, older leaves develop two long lobes at the base. The greatest advantage of this plant is definitely its variegation, ranging in color from white, through cream, to light green, while the color of new leaves is usually additionally enhanced with yellow tones. The plant catches the eye from a distance with a mosaic of spots and streaks scattered across the entire surface of the leaf blade, which can give us a surprise in the form of a “half moon” effect, when variegation evenly spreads over even half of the leaf blade.
The adult leaves of this unique plant can reach up to 60 cm in length, which is why Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’ is perfect as a solitaire, constituting the main aesthetic accent in our interiors. However, it is worth preparing a little more space for it, because it tends to grow up to 150 cm wide.
