Hoya Mathilde

Hoya Mathilde is a hybrid of Hoya Carnosa and Hoya Serpens. It does not reach large sizes. It comes from the jungles of Southeast Asia. It grows up to about two meters. Its leaves are oval in shape and approx. 2-3 cm long, and their structure is thick and waxy. Depending on the amount of sunlight, white spots appear on the plate, which add charm and attract the eye. The underside of Hoya Mathilde leaves is covered with a soft fluff, which is not often found among this species, making it a real gem for collectors. The plant can either climb up, for example, resting on a stake, or hang down loosely. Umbels of this variety deserve special attention, because in combination with its leaves they reach really large sizes – even 6-7 cm in diameter. The white-pink flowers take a star-shaped shape and their surface is covered with soft hairs. They give off a strong scent that is most noticeable in the evenings. Hoya juice contains substances that are toxic to humans and animals, so caution is advised when growing indoors.

Requirements:

Hoya Mathilde requires a site with plenty of bright, diffused light, or possibly a partial shade. Avoid locations with direct sunlight. It grows very well at room temperature of 15 ° C to 25 ° C and high air humidity. He likes sprinkling. Hoya does not tolerate excess and stagnant water, so the pot should have a lot of drainage holes, and the substrate must be permeable and well drained. A suitable substrate is a universal substrate. In summer, hoya should be watered profusely and regularly, but the substrate must dry out between waterings. In winter, it is watered sparingly to prevent the leaves from sagging. During the growing season, hoya is fed once a week with fertilizer for flowering plants or orchids, using half the recommended dose. It should not be moved, especially before and during flowering, as it may cause flowers and buds to fall.

The plant is sold in a pot with a diameter of 14cm. Plant height measured with the pot is approx. 45-50 cm.
